EnviroAir
is
another brainchild of
inventor/entrepreneur Paul G. Begum. Paul
has had a string of notable achievements, ranging from having been the
owner of a highly popular group of restaurants,
a successful
real-estate developer, to master-minding high-tech start-ups in the
internet and retail services industries.
In the spring of
2001 Paul and his
wife Yeonah, who has a PhD in Gerontology, decided to take an exciting
cruise of the Caribbean . . . which
unfortunately, turned out to be less than exciting with Paul getting
ill from what appeared to be some type of airborne allergen. To make matters worse, on the flight home,
Paul’s condition further worsened due to the re-circulated air on the
airplane.
When they arrived
home, Paul and
Yeonah decided to get at the cause of w hat amplified Paul’s allergy
symptoms. It didn’t take long before
Yeonah had unearthed an amazing body of research and
commentary on a
host of irritants and contagions that could be transmitted
through the
air. This well-researched body of
literature concluded that close proximity
(increasing the number of
people in a given space) and air recirculation systems are likely
culprits in spreading these airborne irritants. The
list of irritants included such things as bacteria; viruses; mold
spores; animal dander; fine particulates—like dust; smoke and
by-products of combustion; off-gassing from plastics and synthetic
materials/fabrics—from sources like carpets, drapes, and upholstery;
chemicals—with common things like colognes, perfumes and cleaning
substances as irritants; and a whole raft of other sources. In short, there was no end to things that
could get up your nose and give you discomfort, headaches, or allergic
reactions—including other frequent travelers who either used too much
“fresh scent deodorant” . . . or not enough!
Paul concluded
that if he suffered
while in confined, tightly-packed, recirculated air environments . . .
that others must likewise be suffering. After
much thought, the problem-solver inventor was hard-at-it devising a
solution that not only afforded a degree of personal protection and
security never-before-available . . . but also a solution that would be
permanent (reusable) and effective (unlike the cheap
disposable paper
masks that are virtually worthless), affordable, practical, comfortable
and fashionable. Viola’, the EnviroAir
Designer Mask was born!
